  • This refers to the process by which the living conditions on a planet are changed deliberately to match the conditions on earth. The terraforming of small areas of planets like Mars has been considered as a way to change their harsh living conditions and enable successful human inhabitation.
  • Among other things, the process involves the modification of the temperature and atmosphere of the planet as well as providing an adequate supply of water through the use of various advanced technologies.
  • The term was coined by American science fiction writer Jack Williamson.
