Lodha Panel Report: Top 10 recommendations

  • BCCI has allegedly not followed the Justice Lodha led panel’s recommendations into cleaning the sport in the country and bringing the game into repute following matchfixing and corruption scandals in the past. The latest salvo sees Lodha panel submit their report to the Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice of India T S Thakur. The special bench has come down hard on the BCCI for non-compliance and warned the board of adverse directions in case the recommendations are not put in place.
  • The bench has given BCCI time until October 6 to furnish explanations regarding their alleged non-compliance. Many of the BCCI post holders have questioned the viability of implementing all the recommendations with one state, one vote as one of the biggest points of debate.
  • Even former cricketers such as Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev have questioned the recommendations with one state, one policy and restricted tenures for officials.

Here are the top 10 recommendations by the Lodha committee

# The panel found not enough evidence against former IPL COO Sundar Raman

  • The most contentious point in the recommendations asks BCCI to implement one vote for each state. This means, for example, the large state of Maharashtra with multiple associations in Maharashtra, Mumbai and Vidarbha each have their respective representative and vote during elections. If recommendation is implemented, the entire state will have just one vote.

# No BCCI office-bearer can have more than two consecutive terms

  • The Lodha panel recommends a maximum of three terms for office bearers with no more than two consecutive terms. It further says there should be a cooling period after each term.
